Breakfast Links: Macworld 2008, Less Dieing & Dead man
Macworld 2008 is just around the corner and while I already thought it was going to be a big one. But when they quietly launched those completely whupass new MacPro’s and Xserves it really got the brain cells a tremblin’ - what could they have that was so unbelievable that new 8-core machines weren’t even worth mentioning? Gizmodo has a remarkably interesting view of what they think is going to happen. Most thoughtfully, I wonder if their contrarian view that Apple won’t be launching a new “ultrathin” laptop but will instead move to make their entier laptop line thinner and lighter. We’ll see… but this Macworld is not shaping up to be the worst keynote ever.
Completely unrelated is the new report that NYC death rates are at historic lows! Hooray for us! Looks like out battle against smoking paid off as smoking-related deaths are down 11% since 2002. Although, perhaps related to that is the increase in deaths related to substance abuse - the only category to see a rise. (via)
However, the dead, despite being fewer in number are keeping chipper and still doing the things they’ve always done, like check cashing! That’s right, some guy died (of natural causes) and his roommates decided to wheel the guy down to the check cashing store to cash his social security check. You gotta love that. They left him in the chair in front of the store where horrified passers by alerted the cops. C’mon! That is so awesome, I can’t stand it.
Their friend who knew Cintron as well thinks that Cintron is “probably laughing” about the scheme and would have wanted them to have the money.

Mmm… Macworld. I’m trying to keep my expectations low. Apple stock has tanked in the last few days though (down $20+) so now’d probably be a good time to load up. =)

Yeah, I try to keep expectations low but then Apple drop 8-cores on us without a peep? I mean… it’s gotta be something really good to warrant that… and now I’m all bothered… urgh…
