Breakfast Links: Czech Republic, Sweden & Japan
So it turns out that in the Czech Republic there no laws against prostitution so an enterprising company has created “Big Sister” a brothel in Prague where the sex is free! That’s right free! The catch? Well, you have to sign a waiver that says you’re ok with them filming your little rendezvous and putting that up on the interwebs. Oh boy. They wired that place down with over 50 cameras covering the whole place - this is, apparently the next step in reality television! Perhaps the networks will look into this idea if things pivot the wrong way at this pivotal time in the WGA strike…
Sweden on the other hand doesn’t love the internet, or at least its government doesn’t. They’ve served a 4000 pages of legal documents to the Pirate Bay. For comparison the second biggest murder case in Sweden had 1500 pages. All this despite, or I guess because of the government’s inability to actually nail the Pirate Bay in the past for any reason. There’s even a Pirate Party in Swedish government! Well I imagine that some more interesting notes will show up at Copy me happy before long…
And while CR and Sweden are figuring out the internet, Japan goes on killing the whales. Apparently they plan on kill 1000 whales this year, “for research.” My favourite quote is here:

Wait, is this for research? Or a cherished cultural tradition? They kind of are, y’know, incompatible… You don’t do science for traditions sake… Here’s lots more links and a little more background. Seriously, I remember having to debate Japan’s disregard for international law on this front in high school - and that was a depressingly long time ago.

There should be no debate on whaling and tradition is the last reason anyone should do anything. Maybe if the people ordering whale fat in the diners knew how smart the animals were they were killing…. Whales talk to each other all day in an organized and highly developed social language. They have names for each other, they are not stupid. The Japanese however….. morons. This is why Godzilla hates your country.
