Breakfast Links: Ikea Home, NJ Hunting & Ender’s Game Game
Feeling a mite under the weather, so probably not much posting today.
So, no shortage of people flock to Ikea for all their home needs. Now, in England, they’ll be able to go there for their home needs. That’s right, they’ll be able to buy their whole freakin’ house from Ikea. That’s right, you’ll snag one of these, some assembly required, and get yourself a a one bedrooom apartment! Or 2-3 bedrooms, too. It even comes with a voucher to get yourself some furniture. These, BoKloks (just rolls of the tongue, no?), would cost around £70,000 (that’s like $140k in American) and if this actually happens will be available over the counter at Ikea stores. Seriously, that’s crazy. Crazy, also because I’ve seen how alot of my Ikea furniture looks after a year or three…
On the other side of the housing scale, you have my old hood, Livingston - filled with wealthy people and big houses. That turns out to be right near South Mountain Reservation where there seems to be a deer overpopulation problem and the park’s called in the big guns to help thin it out. Dude, snipers came in and sat in trees not 450 feet from these houses taking out deer with extreme prejudice. Needless to say, some residents weren’t thrilled with the idea but the first day saw 63 less deer and the they’ll be back tomorrow for more. Oh Star Ledger. I’m all nostalgic now. But really, they could obviate the need for all these shenanigans by just reintroducing some wolves, y’know? Easy. Problem solved. :)
Just read on sfsignal that Ender’s Game’s about to be turned into a video game. Looks like they’re going to work on bringing the Battle Room to your living room - that’s pretty sweet. It’s kind of like a military game combined with a sport game. and children. Sadly (or perhaps not so sadly, given the hit/miss ratio of books two movies these days) apparently the Ender’s Game movie’s not happening. Ah well. Check out this link to cnet’s best game console ever. Although, it’s a little wussy and doesn’t proclaim a winner.
(You see my bad ass photochopping? That’s right, it only took me like 10 minutes to do that on the deer. I got mad skillz.)

Good thing me and Steve are not mountain biking in there anymore!!!! We usually take Smokey the dog, so the deer stay away, but there have always been a lot of deer in there. I wonder why? Oh yeah, because they have no other place to go anymore! Lately they have seen many wild turkey too, which are much meaner than deer.

Yeah, it’s definitely good that you aren’t providing exciting targets! :) You saw wild turkey out there while you were biking? That’s cool, I don’t think I’ve ever actually seen a wild, wild turkey. I used to see deer all the time in my back yard, though…

I never saw a turkey in the reservation itself but I saw a couple on Springbrook. luckily I was in my car at the time. They are meaner than Dick Cheney with a hernia.
