GeekFinder: xScope 2.0
I’ve talked about icon factory’s xScope before. I liked it. xScope just informed me by way of an automatic update that 2.0 is out and they’ve added a new feature. Dimensions. Can I just say. I love it?
For the most part the only thing I ever used xScope for was rules - finding measurements. And it did a nice job, but it was kind of a pain in the ass to use and get just right. Accurate down to the pixel measurements were a bit of a pain in the ass to make. On occasion I’d bust out the crosshair, screen or the loupe, but mostly never.
Dimensions is like rules only more magical. There I said it. Magical. In its laser mode it figures out vertical and horizontal spacing automatically and tells it to you without any ambiguity. And in shrink mode it figures out harder to discover things like how big a block of text is. It’s pretty hard to explain but easy to see, so check out this handy video they’ve provided.
Dimensions movie. Watch it.
Did you see that? That was accumulated hours of your life saved right there. It just happens. You’ll start measuring things you don’t even care about, just because. I guess xScope has other tools, too. But for 27 smacks, if you work in the web this app is totally worth the investment. Really. It’s got a huge trial period so you’ve got nothing to lose, go download a copy and see for yourself..
