Some thoughts on Microsoft/Yahoo
Nothings changed. It was and remains a dumb idea and will sink both companies if it happens. Well you know, not sink, go out of business, but sink, make noticeably worse than they are now. Decreasing shareholder value. I did come across SAR’s nice review of more reasons (than my own “two giant, directionless bureaucracies do not make a nimble company”) why this is a bad idea…
On the other hand staying independent, with Google’s help if necessary, could be the right thing to do. Dropping all this search business and head to head competition with the G could do wonders to focus Yahoo on it’s core strengths, a huge content base and massive platform possibilities - areas that Google has been unable to tap into so far. Wonders I say.
But I want to talk about something important - my view of what a joint MSFT/YHOO company might be called. Sure you’ve seen Yacrosoft and MicroHOO. These all give far too much equivalence in this relationship. The reality would be much more like the video below I found on good ol’ Fake Steve Jobs’ blog. I have come up with the perfect name that captures everything… Ready?… “Microsoft!”
Disturbing. I know.
