Breakfast Links: Making Legos, Brust Firefly Fanfic & D&D4
Ok, check it. BusinessWeek, of all places, is ran a little piece on LEGO awhile back, part past, part present, and part future (but no ghosts). It’s pretty sweet. The cooler part, though, is their little gallery of pictures of the making of the LEGO bricks. This is pretty great, shows some of the dies and the machines they use and then the huge containers to keep them all. I want to go to Denmark and check it out now! Wow… there is totally a 2.5 day tour where you check out the factory, meet designers, man… MAN…
Wow, just came across Steven Brusts’ post linking to his free fanfic Firefly novel. It’s creative commons licensed, which is pretty great. I haven’t read it yet, but I imagine it kicks much buttock. I’ve been going through a bit of a Firefly obsession so this comes at a pretty awesome time. I am also, in general, always in a bit of a Steven Brust obsession. So, y’know.
And goin’ way back to the old school, but with some new school flava - Dungeons and Dragons Fourth Edition is almost hitting the streets. Sorta hitting the streets with some Preview Books, two of’ em. I haven’t played since the first edition, hm… maybe second edition, actually. I’m old. But I can remember having my mind blown when I found out that Wizards of the Coast was buying TSR during my Magic: The Gathering days. Ah, those were the days. I can even remember having the basic set, that box of tiny paperbacks where the different races were classes in themselves. Good times.
UPDATE: Well.. the Apple store went down then up and now they’ve just launched a 16GB iPhone! Noooo! Just as I was noticing how little space I had left on mine. I know… I KNOW what’s going to happen. I’m going to get that this summer when Maria’s current contract runs out so she can have mine, then they’re going to launch a brand new one for the holidays. Which I am also going to get. *weeps*

Man that Lego factory is pretty clean! I remember when Howie worked in a plastic factory (right after your fort building duties at the mall) He would come out of that place with plastic all over the place. He would be exhaling it! The Lego factory is so clean its amazing considering how many Legos they produce. I bet when the next civilizations is digging for their past they find Legos all over the place. How long for those to degrade? 500,000 years? Little bright reg plastic bricks is all we will leave behind.
*iphone reference, another piece in the pie.

Man, that’d be a great legacy to leave - LEGO everything. I want to go buy some LEGO’s now. Hmm…
Heh, missed that one! Although, I gotta say, I’d be conflicted, I love Firefly as much as the next guy… but the Yamato? Dude, that things got the Wave Motion Gun. I don’t know, I’m glad I didn’t have to make the decision, it would have been too much for me to handle.
