Guitar Hero fo’ Real?
It’s no secret that Guitar Hero (and Rock Band) are the shit. No secret. But, one common refrain, not entirely with justice, but not entirely without basis either, is that spending all that time practicing not playing guitar could perhaps be modified to actually learn guitar. Whatev - you see all them kids on the youtubes that play Guitar Hero faster than Chris can see? Yeah, that’s madness.
Still.. check it, some enterprising company (GameTank) is taking that thought to it’s logical conclusion, making Guitar Rising a guitar hero type game wherein you actually play a real guitar, like any guitar. That’s pretty cool, I mean, if it’s fun. Part of the appeal of Guitar Hero is that it’s really easy to pick up and the learning curve is slow and steady - unlike a real instrument where it’s actually difficult and takes dedication where the noises emitting from your instrument are not the sounds of the rock gods. But if this thing actually works… well damn! I gotta guitar sitting right next to me!
What do you think? Will it spawn a generation of rockers who can only read music when it comes streaming at them in multiple delicious colors? Pass or Fail?

That is awesome. I wish he’d gone into more detail about how the buttons work, he mentions they’re a binary representation, but it seems like he pulls a lot more information out of them than that.

This is a great idea. Wish it was around when I first picked up a guitar. Maybe that would have saved me the 10 year learning curve.
