Breakfast Links: XOHM rebooted, Subway Kitty & Japanese Pickup School
Celebrate good times. Come on! I thought that my WiMax dreams were dead. Dead, dead, dead. Happily, it seems that Clearwire and Sprint have gotten back together thanks to some timely matchmaking by Intel (oh and by matchmaking I mean, $2 billion). It seems like this is potentially a win for everyone, since it let’s Sprint move on with it’s hopefully company saving 4G efforts, helps save Intel’s work with WiMax (since AT&T & Verizon now back LTE) and save Clearwire in general. Good times. Just hurry up and get with the NYC rollout. Wierd linking to theStreet, an old workplace o’ mine.
In other happy news, Georgia, a kitty who got lost in the NYC subway has been reunited with her owner! That’s completely crazy - she got out of her carrier and ran away 25 days ago and survived in the tunnels for that long. Apparently she was saved by some MTA people who heard the story and went above and beyond looking for the cat. That’s totally crazy. See and that’s a three way win, too! The cat wins by not being eaten by rats, the owner wins by getting the cat back and the MTA wins by getting good publicity! Yay! (via)
And speaking of three ways, Japan now has it’s very own version of Mystery, the pickup artist. Satoshi Fujita is now offering classes for guys who can’t get any. His sites in japanese, so that’s translated, but you can check out the Wired piece on him for some english language action. This is my favourite quote:
Women like laughter, compliments and magic tricks.
Dammit! That explains so much.

I can’t wait for XOHM! It will be great to have broadband speeds while mobile and not have to find hot spots. Good Times indeed!

Georgio, brother, I hear you. :) Do you happen to be in one of the early rollout cities? I fear NYC is at the end of the initial rollout list, so hopefully by 2009! It can not come soon enough!

I live right outside of Washington, DC - at the end of March moving into the city! I agree it can not come soon enough! I am really excited, XOHM is going to be awesome!

Georgio, while I admit that I suffer from extreme i-live-in-the-greatest-city-ever-itis I am also jealous of all you other cities getting XOHM before me. :) I’m already a spring EVDO customer so, stepping up to XOHM is going to be nice. I hope it lives up to the hype!

[...] Wifi was always flawed as a wide area network because it was never meant to hit that. WiMax, like XOHM, was the new cool in town and made much more sense. Now I just read how some Aussie WiMax [...]
