Breakfast Links: Wikitravel, Harold & Kumar & Lessig ‘08
Yo, check it. Wikitravel is doing this new thing where they are printing up to the month travel guides based on their wiki. They’re a little light on breadth - they’ve only got Chicago and Singapore so far. Still it could be interesting - how often does it suck when you’re rocking your 4 year old travel guide only to find that 3 of the 4 places you wanted to check out are now closed? That’s the worst. But I think this is an evolutionary step towards what I think will be the best - a non-wiki, crowd sourced travel guide that lets you build your own guide for download to pdf or the portable device du jour. So you pick the things you want to see, the places you want to eat and sleep, etc… it collates them all, builds and index and shoves in some maps and packages all that up for you. That’s what I’m talking about.
They lack the guide book for Guantánamo Bay - but fear not, the sequel to Harold and Kumar’s got your back. That’s right the sequel is Escape from Guantánamo Bay! Damn, dude. The NYTimes has some thoughts on this whole thing. You gotta dig that, the best part is that our awesome government is concerned that it doesn’t display the prison in the best possible light.
The focus on Guantánamo as a creative subject can lead to distortions, Admiral Buzby said. “It’s as if someone turned up the gain on our life to make it sound really bad.â€
Wow, Admiral Buzby, how awful for you. This must be really difficult for you and the others working the illegal, secret prison.
On the other hand, I’m excited to see the movie. :) (via)
And… moving on. Lawrence Lessig is thinking about getting into our fantastic government. Personally, I don’t necessarily agree with all that he says, but I do agree with a lot of it and he certainly seems like he’d do a much better job in Congress than many of the other asshats currently there. I have no idea if he could actually make it, but I hope he gives it a try. A bunch of folks have fired up draftlessig.org to try and convince him - they’re looking for 1000 donors to make an impact. Lessig isn’t sure, but he’s thinking about it and he’s soon to announce a new site, in any event, called Change Congress. That all sounds good, no?

Nice post. Yeah, must be hard to be a General in the worlds most advanced army that does whatever it wants whenever it wants to. Tough life.
