Breakfast Links: Akira, Unflattering Pictures & Shadow Unit
You know, when I first read that they (and by they I mean Hollywood) were thinking of remaking Akira into a live action movie, I was skeptical, but willing to give it a shot. I didn’t know who Ruairi Robinson was, but hey, that doesn’t mean anything. Then Ben hooked me up with a more in depth article and I got less and less excited. Leo DiCaprio’s pushing it? That would be enough to kill the excitement for me, but just in case it wasn’t for you, they’ve decided to move it’s setting from New Tokyo to…. New Manhattan. Wow. Wow. As Ben said, they should just rename the movie Erik.
I know that’s depressing, but here’s something that’ll cheer you up. A CBS affiliate is running a slide show of unflattering photos from the campaign trail. I’m not sure why, it could be a bias, but a lot of the pictures aren’t flattering, sure, but mostly just the ones with Hillary are downright frightening. At any rate, it’s pretty good times.
And lastly Episode 1 of Shadow Unit is out. I first got wind of Shadow Unit off Brust’s blog - it’s a strange concept. It’s a website devoted to writing fan fiction for a show - the thing is? The show doesn’t exist. Something like that - but it’s created by Emma Bull, Elizabeth Bear and Will Shetterly - so it has serious writers all up in there. So, if you’re into that kinda thing it’s probably worth a checkin’ out.

That sounds like the movie idea I have to remake Dune. But instead of a sci-fi action thriller I was going to make it a Broadway show. And instead of Arrakus it will take place in Kansas City. And instead of Sting, Bobcat Goldthwait.
