Adobe’s crazy depth of field lens!
I just saw this on notcot. It is madness. Some kinda bug-eye lens contraption that basically gives a wide latitude for focus when taking a picture by having a ton of lenses with different focus. Then using special Adobe magic you load all that in and you get a picture that let’s you pan left and right a little for that 3D effect and it also lets you play with your depth of field in software - shifting the focus forward and backward or just plain keeping the whole frame sharp. There’s images and lots more words that explain this voodoo a little better in the original article or you can do like I did in high school, forget the reading and watch the moving pictures…
That’s so awesome. Who even knew Adobe had a hardware research lab? Not this asian american.

Each lens uses a piece of the sensor so you’ll need a 114MP sensor to give you a completed 6MP image. Not gonna see this in a tiny P&S anytime soon. ;-p Wouldn’t mind one in a Canon mount though. =)

That’s cool as crap, still. I mean… hey that lens is bigger than my SLR so I guess I won’t worry about the size. :) I’m guessing something with a medium format back is the order of the day! Bad ass. I’ll take two. :)

Back in high school we used to take pictures of ourselves skateboarding at all the hometown skate spots, hoping we would some day meet chicks who were looking for guys who took pictures of each other skateboarding. Felix is in a few as a matter of fact. (Go ZorlaK!) Anyway one day my friend Marc brings out this camera with 4 lenses. (this is 1988-1989) You shot it like a regular film camera but it produces 3-D images when you got them printed. They were not that “put on your 3-D glasses cause I just beveled and embossed everything with red and blue, 7-11″ 3-D either, these pictures has a real sense of depth because it was really 4 pictures layered on top of one another, all focusing on different elements. I will try to find it online. So yeah, old concept but add digital and it’s a whole new ball game.
