Yeah, I remember XPF, but they never really believed in that one. They seem to believe in Silverlight, though. I'm sure it'll start coming with IE8 or some such, yeah. And then the game will be on.

Microsoft has tried to eat adobe's lunch from time to time and generally failed. The last BIG one i can think of was microsofts PDF replacement, XPF. But they know how to win when they have to. I wouldnt put it past M$ to build sliverlight right into explorer, make it an automatic update to windows (it already shows up in windows update as optional) and start shipping it built into the next WIN releases. All of a sudden, sliverlights market penetration is huge!

No need to defend Flash, I think Adobe's done a great job. I'm just curious to see how they handle the pressure - they aren't, generally speaking, that used to competition any more...

Blasphemy BEN! Blasphemy!

In flash's defense, since flash 4 I have seen that program make incorporating videos and animations into your webpage so much easer its hard to think of what we had to do before. Certain things get easier every release. That goes a long way with customers. Call it devotion but it's not a blind "can do no wrong" devotion some have to other (i)companies, it's more of being aware that the track record for both Macromedia and Adobe now are pretty sick and you know that every version will be better. Can't say that for the big MS.
