XRAP iPhone caseThe dam broke after I got a Cozip for my iPhone. Not that I have any beef with it, I quite like it, but now I’m interested in seeing what other minimal cases there are. I came across a forum posting talking about the XRAP which sounded pretty interesting. Sadly, there’s very little info available on the net for it.

I found a place to pick them up really cheap and ordered one. The proprietor of the store was really nice and he emailed me and told me that they were actually 1st generation cases that the maker had replaced with a newer version that worked better. So if it didn’t work out for me I could return it.

I got the case and it’s interesting. It’s a full case, covers everything (unlike the Cozip which covers only the back and sides), but has a slot for everything you need access to. It’s reasonably thin and rubbery (without being sticky so it doesn’t seem to pick up lint) and I’d guess it offers as much drop protection as you can expect from a millimeter think case - a good deal more than the Cozip I’d wager. I also like that it has a little loop so you can connect a fob of your choosing to the phone - something that so many phones lack these days. The problem is that the screen cover is not tight against the screen of the iPhone which made it pretty much impossible to reliably use the screen. It was a chore even to just unlock the phone.

The next generation apparently has a thinner screen area, but I didn’t read that it was tighter on the device. Even if it is thinner if the fit isn’t better it still won’t work well. After feeling this - for my most minimalist needs (I’m not looking for any drop protection, just wear protection) I don’t need the marginal, but noticeable extra bulk this has over the Cozip so I’m not going to try and find a new one. But, if you are looking for something with a little more strength than a Cozip and are feeling adventurous, you might try and hunt down a second generation XRAP (which also seems to come in colors) and give it a shot. If you do, let me know what you think of it!
