Afternoon Awwww… Baby Polar Bear!
Maria sent this one in and it’s a doozy. Here’s a baby polar bear (Wilbaer) born in a zoo in Germany, dethroning the aging Knut as the new cute in town. The bear’s cute and all but the greatest parts of the video are the two times that momma bear picks up Wilbaer by whatever’s handy, typically the butt. Pretty awesome, I mean dogs and cats always get carried around by the scruffs of their necks. Polar bears? Apparently, it doesn’t matter, they ain’t no wussies. Sorry CNN doesn’t have an embed thing, so you gotta click through, but it’s worth it.
In other news from the same zoo as Wailbaer’s - someone’s gone and birdnapped Babe (a penguin) from her enclosure in the middle of the day! You might think this is common given the high demand for illegal penguins worldwide, but surprisingly…
“We’re not sure why a thief would want to steal a penguin in Germany, since there is no black market here for stolen penguins,” said Florian Suckal, the police spokesman. “I couldn’t even guess what the thief could earn for her.”
