Breakfast Links: Free Stuff Edition
Aiight. Check it. Y’know how the Blu-Ray finally and resoundingly kicked HD DVD’s proverbial ass? Well, sadly for early adopters, there was collateral damage in this all out battle for the next irrelevant physical disk format (didn’t you hear? People are downloading all their stuff now!) - that’s right feel bad for all the people who bought HD DVD players - I bet they feel about as good as everyone who bought Betamax players. Sony, on the other hand, has to feel good about not blowing this one! At any rate, Circuit City is coming to some of their rescue - if you bought one within 3 months of the announcement you can trade it in for a Blu Ray player or a gift card. Apparently it’s a soft offer so they won’t be promoting it - you have to ask for it - so now you know.
Next up. You know how the Palm Centro is doing pretty well for the ailing company? It’s $100 price tag (with service) seems to agree with a new younger customer base. Well be prepared for this. Now, thanks to my boys in Seattle, you can get a Centro free. That’s right - with a rebate (that says you have to have continuous service for 6 months) it’s now free. You can grab it for AT&T as well as Sprint in two colors. That can’t be a bad thing for Palm. (via)
Lastly. This is a little cheating, but hey. It’s my blog. We posted about NIN giving away all them free tracks a bit ago. Well it turns out that seems to have been a successful promotion. (You can go get them now!) At the same time they were selling a Limited Edition (2500 of ‘em) package which had all sorts of neat stuff for a whopping $300. Well, that’s sold out now. That’s right, on the back of some free downloads for publicity, Trent just hooked up with $750,000. And that doesn’t include the number of CD’s and what not he’ll sell, too. Pretty good stuff.
BONUS LINK: Today is National Grammar Day! I wanted for a long time to a) have a gerbil and b) name him Gerund. Not that I know what a gerund is.
