Breakfast Links: Our Awesome Government
Awright! Government! First up - word on the street is that federal funding (a mere $26 million) is drying up for the Reading is Fundamental program. Because why would America need to be concerned about it’s literacy rates?? RIF, responsible for promoting reading in both children and families, organizes book festivals and gives out books to needy children. Yeah, too needy, f them! That $26 million is better spent on shinier screws for our jets! If you prefer a literate citizenry to shiny screws here’s where you can help out.
Ah, what else. Oh, yes, so the government decided that doing a mad flood of the Grand Canyon would help offset the damage done to the ecosystem when they built the Glen Canyon Dam. Sounds good right? They spent $80 million on research. Oh, except they gave people exactly 1 day to read all this research and comment on it - and comment on it they did - it’s a dumb idea that doesn’t take in to account the latest scientific information and will do more harm than good. F them! Turns out that somehow this is all a stunt a) to sound like the Bush administration has some green cred and b) to generate more power to the dam. Lovin’ it!
And then there’s the National Data Exchange. Here’s a new system developed by that friend to men everywhere, Raytheon. Designed to make information exchange much easier between all levels of government from the FBI down to local police forces. There were reasons why this didn’t exist before - oh, right - our Congress imposed limits on domestic intelligence long ago to help protect our privacy. But Bush is rapidly doing away with all those pesky needs what with all his illegal surveillance and patriot acts and what not. F civil liberties!
Ok… that’s it. I’m off to yoga.

Deep breaths… 1… 2…. 3…. 4….. exhale… ahhhhhhhhhh. Better. The good news is that any of the current crop of likely candidates is better than Bush. The bad news is that our standards are beaten down so low… we just want anything better. :)

Well thats my uncle Phil and his buddy. They think they are detectives or something, just ignore them. I love hearing the Bush supporters dishing out the old Fox view of all the civil liberty banning falls under “protection”. So far no one has properly explained how the government knowing my net flix queue makes me any safer. “Oh…. oh I see Poyla’s renting Caddy Shack again…. def con 3!”
