Hot on the heels of my posting of that sweded Star Wars, I’ve come across someone’s much better post of the top 10 Sweded Films. With such greats as Predator, Blade Runner and Back to the Future can you afford not to see this post?? I didn’t think so.

“Ammon Shea recently spent a year of his life reading the OED from start to finish. Over the next few months he will be posting weekly blogs about the insights, gems, and thoughts on language that came from this experience.” Yeah, read that two times fast. How’s that for a premise for a book… or a reality show! He’s posted something on the Absurd Entries in the OED. The whole premise is kind of absurd, but you know… I can’t resist a good OED post. Por ejemplo:

the word scindapse has no definition at all, but there is a nice little etymology which informs the reader that it comes from a Greek word which means ‘a ‘thingumbob’, a what-d’ye-call-it.’

I bet he had to check his magnifying glass twice when he came across that one! Still what-d’ye-call-it is a good root word.

And then, sadly, I came across this Asia Quiz. I love a good quiz, but really mostly only the ones I’m good at. I came across this and was all like, “Oh, I’m asian, sorta… I should rock this thing!” And then the quiz was all like “Kyrgyzstan” and “Tajikistan” and I was like “awwww… snap.” F that, man. I’m not even going to tell you the awe inspiring score I got. But if you all tell me your scores I’ll then tell you mine… Keno style. (via)
