Tuesday Tabs
Another tuesday and I’m another 1/52nd older. So are you so stop laughing. Some of us, and I’m not naming names, are a lot older today. In unrelated news, Happy Birthday again, Howard!
· iTunes Competitors: We’re Number 2! No, We’re Number 2! (AMZN, AAPL) - SAI
I easily believe this, of course, being #2 to iTunes doesn’t necessarily mean much. Empirically, though, I know that I’ve switched to checking Amazon first for anything I’m looking to buy.
· TorrentSpy Gives Up; Shuts Down - techdirt
The sad thing of this is that it wasn’t for legal reasons, just exhaustion. That’s chilling, if the MPAA doesn’t have to actually win to get these sites to shut down, it just has to pressure them till it’s not worth it for them.
· Computers Are Programmed By People Not Magic - techdirt
An interesting piece on misplaced faith, but really, I just thought it was one of the best titles EVER.
· Palm poaches another Apple executive - Valleywag
I find the ebb and flow of executives interesting - that’s a few folks moving from Apple to Palm. Coming at a time where Apple is really at a peak I think this must signal something interesting for Palm’s medium term future, how else could you convince people to come on to a ship that to all outside observation is sinking quick?
· South by Southwest and the One-Millionth Centro - palm blog
The post is really boring but the information is interesting… a million Centros in 6 months. That’s pretty good. Sure it cuts their margins, but at least it gives them some momentum, let’s see if they can actually capitalize on it.
· Yahoo’s New Rock Star Retention Program - TechCrunch
Wow, wish I got one o’ those packages! 18 month vesting? I wonder what percentage of employees are eligible. If it’s any non-trivial amount, I wonder what this does to profit a year and a half from now.
