Google Analytics now with 300% more granularity!
Imagine, just imagine, my delight when I went my Google Analytics page yesterday and discovered some buttons over the graph that said Hour, Day, Week and Month. Are you done imagining? Good. I hope it was a lot, because I was pretty psyched. That’s one of the key features that’s really been missing from GA for me.
On top of most graphs in the system you can now have it show you the stats aggregated by day, month or week and on some graphs broken down into a cyclical hour (so it shows 24 hours only and you can see the trend to your site over the course of a day). Those bigger aggregations really help you see the trend of your site over time - with the general daily fluctuations in site stats with only a daily view it could be hard to see the main trends of the site. Now you just crank up the aggregation and it’s super easy and as we all know, easy is better.
This is a really great improvement to the service. Now if they could just make it update faster that would be the cat’s meow. Oh, and while I’m making more requests, it’d be even cooler if they could have an option to filter out outlying days - using some standard deviation voodoo - so that single day spikes (which on smaller sites can have a very skewing effect) can be smoothed out.
You can check out some pretty pictures on the analytics blog or just head over to your own analytics dashboard and play around with it yourself. Pretty sweet, eh?
