Breakfast Links: Marvel v DC, Scott Pilgrim & Apple

Ragged Art on a Sunny Monday (thanks Diana!)
Ok, in the eternal war we finally have some objective numbers - that war being Marvel v. DC comics and those numbers being box office grosses. (via) Unsurprisingly Marvel is taking that cake home with almost double the numbers. Which just goes to show, I was totally right growing up suggesting that DC stood for “Dumb Comics”, yup, I was so clever, no? So clever. We’ll see what happens to these numbers when The Dark Knight comes out - I suspect it’ll get a little more balanced. But it seems to me that Marvel’s got a whole bunch more variety in their lineup with DC pretty much taking Batman to the bank. And honestly, I liked most of the Marvel movies more than I did the DC ones. I’m just saying.
On more current comics fronts, if you aren’t reading Scott Pilgrim you ought to be. You’ll regret it when the movie comes out and you can’t floss your indie comic cred in front of all the laydeez. If you don’t want to read a comic where the protagonist is in a band called Sex Bob-omb and some says to him “Scott, if your life had a face, I would punch it in the balls. Seriously.”, well, it must be because you hate bunnies. Don’t hate bunnies. Sadly for the world, he publishes one book a year, so far 4 are out with #5 coming ideally end of this year, but the Oni guy at Comiccon NYC said beginning of next. *weeps* In the meantime, though, he’s started publishing annotations for his existing works. Nice!
And we close on a bit of Apple news. First here’s a bit on how Apple wants more ringtones from the music labels for June and more than that they want those fancy ringback tones so you can wow your calling friends with your mad music taste. But it all underscores the Arctic Monkeys point when they say “There’s only music, so that there’s new ringtones.” And speaking of June, a friend of mine recently went to an Apple store down south to purchase a MacBook wherein the Apple store guy asked,”You sure you need one now? There’ll be more coming in 3 weeks.” So, um, take that for the hearsay rumor that it’s worth.
