Oh, Google Android.
Just a quick note - in my absence, Google seems to have had a conference in which they talked about Android. Now, I’m reasonably skeptical about Android, but it seems to be coming along well - so I hope that I’m wrong about this and it makes as big a splash as some folks think it will. But I mean really, if Andy Rubin is saying stuff like this:
Why wouldn’t a carrier want to allow any application to be put on a cell phone?
when asked why there was no update on Android support from the two biggest US carriers (AT&T and Verizon) you have to wonder if he’s really that stupid or if he just thinks you are. Either way, right?
Also, it’s sad but not too surprising that Android doesn’t support multi-touch yet - but not really a deal killer for me. Multi-touch on the iPhone is cool, but not super necessary at this point. I think it will grow to become more integral but for now, it definitely isn’t. But the video demo looked good - I love that security/unlocker pathy thingy they made - it elegantly doubles as a slide unlock and a security code if desired - I really want that for my iPhone. Fo’ realz.
