Breakfast Links: Optical Speed Bumps, Robot Lovers & Robotech

Monday Art is fun!
Ok, tell me if you don’t think this is a bad idea. Philadelphia is rolling out fake speed bumps, that is, they’re putting things down on a flat road that make it seem like there’s a real (3D) speed bump, but there isn’t. (via) Remember when they tried this with fake cop cars on highways to deter speeding? Yeah, that ended up with vandalized fake cop cars? Won’t people either immediately recognize the fake ones or else start to think that perhaps even real ones are fake and speed over them? I dunno. The whole idea of tricking drivers never really seems to pan out.
So, sex robots. Some dude is saying that we’ll have robot sex toys in the next 5 years. (via) Listen, I know that sounds like a great idea to you (pervert) but I saw those three episodes of Buffy and let me tell you, it doesn’t end well. And let me close this paragraph with this quote from the piece:
“Certainly there will be some existing human-human relationships where one partner might say to the other partner: ‘if you have sex with a robot I’m leaving you’.
Dude, I get that every day.
On happier robot news… remember the Robotech movie, the one being pushed by Tobey Maguire? Yeah, I forgot about it too, don’t worry, we’re all just getting old. Well, maybe it’s going to happen they just got Lawrance Kasdan to write the script. You may know him from some of his earlier works such as The Empire Strikes Back, Raiders of the Lost Ark and less relevantly Silverado. Well, color me excited, I hope Robotech gets back on track cause I want to see a live-action movie where somehow a hot girl singing cheesy songs saves the day in a non-tongue-in-cheek way. That will be real movie magic.
