UPDATE: Check out the live mozilla download counter. At 430k as of this moment.

Well, today is the day. Firefox 3 is out and going for a Guinness World Record for most software downloaded in 24 hours. Check out their pledge map of people who are going to download and promote this bad boy. You can watch their progress live on air mozilla or on twitter via mozillafirefox. SO GO FORTH AND DOWNLOAD.

I’ve been happily using FF3 since beta 4 came out and since then it has been worlds ahead of my Firefox2 experience. For me (and I admit I don’t run a ton of extensions) FF3 has been faster and more stable than FF2 was. It uses less memory and deals with more open windows and tabs much better than FF2. Since then there was beta 5 and 3 release candidates, so it isn’t like FF3 is going to be out and buggy - it’s been well tested. So far in June over 30% of my Firefox traffic (which is over 50% of all my traffic so I guess about 15% which isn’t much less than all my Safari traffic) has been Firefox 3. Although, that’s probably a bit of a biased selection group. :)

If you are using Firefox 3 already, do the upgrade! If you are using Firefox 2, this is definitely the way to go, FF3 is simply better. Your computer will thank you for it. If you’re using IE, get on the bandwagon - give FF3 a shot. Web developers around the world will thank you for it and I suspect that you’ll like it better too. And if you’re using Safari, granted it’s a pretty good browser if you’re using the Webkits, but Firefox3 offers better functionality through the extensions you can get.

If you’re a web developer you can not live with out Tamper Data, Web Developer and Firebug. During some dark FF2 days I tried to switch to Safari but simply could not get work done without those extensions.

If you want a rundown of what’s new in Firefox 3, check out this field guide. The short answer is a hell of a lot! I mean, if Uncle Walt says FF3 is the best browser for the web… isn’t it worth a shot?

There’s never been a better time to try Firefox. Seriously. Download it, you won’t regret it.
