Breakfast Links: Maid in the USA, Korea ok with Nipple Nips & NYC
Ok, long time readers of this blog (or you know, the internet) will be no strangers to Japanese Maid Cafes, where young ladies dress up in maid outfits and serve you your snacks and play hungry hungry hippos with you for 2 minutes. Well, it seems that this has now been exported to the US with our first one opening up on the west coast. (via) Somehow, though, it’s become a little more high brow in the translation focusing, strangely, on the art in the space. As though young ladies and their “deferential service” wasn’t the only reason people were heading to the cafe. I dunno, though, this seems like a good idea in Akihabara but strikes me as potentially creepy here in the states. Not saying I wouldn’t go and check it out, but I dunno, something strikes me as wierd about it here.
Ben shared this one with me, which I primarily like because the title of the piece was “Nipple nips and groin bumps OK’d by Korean court.” Apparently the Korean Supreme Court has passed down this decision:
Squeezing a person’s nipple or hitting their genitals with the back of one’s hand does not constitute sexual harassment if the incident took place in military barracks, the Supreme Court recently ruled.
Uh… huh. Is the Korean army infested with soldiers giving each other purple nurples? If I, as a civilian, were to visit someone in those barracks would it be as though I had gone back to 6th grade and entered a DMZ of ball smacking and charlie horses? Because apparently the Korean Supreme Court iw a lot more understanding than Mrs. McGurk was.
Huh, well, now we return back to the Big Apple with some news. First the waterfalls are opening and the Gothamist has the scoop on the best places to go and check them out. This is quite amazing and I’m really looking forward to getting my eyeful. Anyone planning on going, I may even have to resort to getting on a ferry or something. Booze cruise!! Also, NYC restaurant week reservations open today, so if you dig eating expensive food for slightly less expensive prices, this may be your time to shine. Just like so many things, I always plan on going but year after year never do. Maybe this is the time.
