Breakfast Links: Sack Races Banned, Cthulhu Web Comic & Save Totoro’s Forest
It’s tough for the kids these days. They live in a dangerous world. Exposed to the horrors of sack and three-legged races, sometimes they can fall down. Wait. What? That’s right, a school in Washington has banned them from a school sports day because children might fall over and hurt themselves. (via) It’s crazy. What’s more crazy is that school sports day is an Edwardian theme where kids will dress up in period clothing? To… play sports? Who the hell is running this school?
Grrr. ANYway. If you like webcomics, and I know you do, you ought to check out BOOM! Studios which is now offering no fewer than 6 of them. You can’t help but be somewhat skeptical given that three of them happen to be titled after internet memes - Cthulhu Tales, Ninja Tales and Zombie Tales. But, you know. I was looking over Cthulhu Tales quickly and it looked pretty ok, so chiggity check ‘em out. Although, I don’t love reading comics 1 page a day. It’s kinda frustrating. Like you know how you watch DragonBall Z and like nothing happens in 1 episode? Yeah, it’s like that.
And if you want to do something good with your life AND enrich your home with art, check out the Totoro Forest Project. (via) Tons of artists like Charles Vess and Scott Morse are putting up a piece for the auction, the proceeds of which will go to save Sayama Forest (also known as Totoro Forest) which served as the inspiration for Miyazaki’s film. So hop to it, man.
BONUS LINK: And here’s your daily reminder. Dr. Horrible’s first act is UP! Haven’t watched it yet, but that shouldn’t stop you from doing so immediately! I bought the season pass on iTunes ’cause I support the team, but you can watch it fo’ frees on hulu.
