Argh. Urgh. Aggh. Luuucaaaassss. Ok. Lucas is going on some more about Clone Wars. You know, I’ve had cold feet about this project ever since they took Genndy off and put Lucas back on. I mean… look, let’s ignore Lucas’ love of Jimmy Neutron and take his response to the question of why the animation isn’t photorealistic, why they’ve been made to look like painted wooden puppets.
We didn’t want to do photorealistic — photorealistic is what live action movies are. Animation is art. This is an art discussion – either you like photorealistic art, or you like something that tries to find the truth behind the realism.
Man, George, you’re so deep. Ohh… the truth behind the realism. Well, huh, so the truth is you’ve got a lot of wooden puppets. It’s so dumb. What about, you can’t do photorealistic animation (especially on a budget), or the studies that show as you get more realistic animation people have increasingly negative reactions to flaws in the photorealism, or what about the fact that you just like the look of Jimmy Neutron because you have terrible taste?
Argh. Ok… I have to stop and move on.
Move on to… the inflatable beach church that some nuns are setting up on an Italian beach to try and put god in the competition with, you know…. sinful behaviour such beaches and their environs engender. (via) This bouncy castle of our lord is 100 feet long! There’ll be singing and confessions and midnight masses and everything you’d want on your adriatic beach vacation. I suspect that they’ll need to get some inflatable patrons to fill up the pews if they want some company…
Lastly, check out this page of the origins of familiar phrases. I love the weird word and phrase posts, and this one’s a big’un! Who knew that “Raining cats and dogs” came from:
In the days before garbage collection, people tossed their trash in the gutter – including deceased housepets – and it just lay there. When it rained really hard, the garbage, including the bodies of dead cats and dogs, went floating down the street.
A) Gross. B) Kinda makes you glad you didn’t live in the days before garbage collection, eh? Yeah, and there’s lots more where that came from.
