As you say, it is still doomed to the same failure. Probably even more so because it has bigger players (who will all naturally want bigger say in the spec) and it seems to have even bigger aspirations than PFS ever did. Good times. Microsoft developed that DRM in 2004, got all their partners to sign on, incorporated it into windows media player and MSN music store, got all the hardware manufacturers to certify their devices for it. Two years later, MS came out with their own hardware (zune) which does NOT even support it! Then to really get incredibly ridiculous, they changed the name to "Certified for Windows Vista" even though it has nothing to do with windows vista. As if that wasn't enough, the zune is now also badged with "Certified for Windows Vista" although it doesn't play the rebranded "Certified for Windows Vista" DRMed media!!!! WTF?!?!
