Breakfast Links: Buffy Wins an Emmy, $200 bill & Virtual Boyfriends

Art happens on Monday.

So, sort of oddly, Buffy was up for an Emmy for – and I couldn’t believe this category myself – “most dramatic TV moment of all time.” For serious. Happily, it won. It was the season finale for 5 6 (thanks, Michael) where she sacrifices herself for Dawn. It was up against an odd assortment of other dramas X-Files, Grey’s Anatomy, Brian’s Song and Dallas. Wierd. Anyhow, glad it won, but if you ask my opinion – that should have closed out the show… That is, it lost all its emotional weight by her coming back in the next season, you know? I mean, that would have been a bold series closer!

You know what else is bold? Creating a “counterfeit” $200 bill and spending it. Successfully. I mean, is counterfeit valid in this case? Can you counterfeit something that has no real counterpart? There’s a couple best parts to this, first off the bill featured George Bush on the front and the back had the whitehouse of a $20 bill, but had the lawn littered with anti-Bush sentiment signs. Then, and maybe you can’t believe this, the guy bought $150 of groceries with this and the cashier gave him $50 back. I mean, really! Can this be true? I don’t know, but I certainly hope it is. Apparently, North Carolina cops are searching for this unnamed man.

Finally, apparently in Japan, young ladies everywhere are also searching for some men and this is apparently difficult so they have, instead, turned to virtual boyfriends? Apparently, these are games where girls via for the affections of some virtual guy online. Don’t they know? They can just get onto any online community anywhere, let it be known that they are both japanese and female and they won’t even need to try hard to win the affections of tons of guys from all of the place! Easy pickins!

  • Ah, right! Thanks for the reminder. It's true 2 more seasons of slayage are better than none more, but still... it would have been a kick ass series end. I mean, really, kick ass.
  • Actually that was the season closer for S5 of Buffy.

As I understand it, they were being canceled on The WB, and the deal on UPN for 2 additional seasons hadn't been 100% inked yet. So it might have been a great series closer to leave her dead, but instead we got 2 more seasons of slayage on UPN.
