Breakfast Links: Needle-less shots, Infrequent Prostitution Points & Clone Wars

This is pretty good news if you’re like me and hate shots. A japanese inventor has created a way to give you your shot without the needley part – I don’t know what an “ampule” is, but it sounds better than really thin sliver of metal that slides painfully into your skin. It looks pretty close to whatever that thing was that they used in Star Trek to deliver the meds, you know? It made a cool fsssht’ing sound, too, as I recall. Creepily, though, the inventor named this the “Mother’s Kiss”. I don’t know about your mother, but really…

Moving on. So, apparently Dutch cities are beginning to close all their red light districts (to be done by 2011). The city of Eindhoven is taking some interesting actions to try and speed up the process by offering prostitutes incentives to end their ways. They are offering “street miles” for good actions like taking self assertion classes (to get away from their pimps) and workshops on how to find new jobs. They can then use those miles to go shopping. Some art students are also proposing providing makeovers and a fashion label conceived by the prostitutes. Now I don’t know how effective any of that will be, but it sure sounds like some quality reality TV could come out of that!

Now, I won’t try and segue into the success of the Clone Wars tv show with some kind of gauche comparison of whoring, George Lucas and the Star Wars franchise, that would be classless and if there’s something this blog has…. it’s class. Seriously though, why? This kind of success just encourages him. From what I remember of the reviews I read it was all kinda,”Well, it wasn’t as bad as the movie” or “It works better than the movie because there’s less story and more action.” But it seems that the action is still clones v robots, so why care more now? Maybe I’ll try and catch an ep, but really… have you watched it? Am I missing out?
