Who’s house?? Obama’s house!

I don’t like to wax political up in here, but these past few days it was pretty unavoidable. And now it’s all said and done and the man won and that is something. Of course he made me stay up way past my bedtime, till after midnight! What’s up with that? Why couldn’t he give his damn speech earlier? Doesn’t he care about me? Obviously not about my sleep, at least.

Nevertheless, it was pretty stunning victory. When the networks called his presidency I could hear the roar of my neighborhood from inside my apartment, 22 floors up through double paned windows. When I stepped out onto the balcony, it was really quite awesome – from all corners of the neighborhood I could hear cheering and yelling and a few bottle rockets. This, though, was apparently nothing compared to the streets of Williamsburg after his victory speech! People clogging streets till the wee hours of the morning!

His speech was pretty good. Check out a transcript if you’re that guy.

And you have to hand it to McCain conceding immediately with a very nice speech. Here’s a transcript of that one. Unbelievably, though, there were boos from the crowd. I couldn’t really figure out exactly what they were booing, but whatever it was – not cool guys. An abbreviated video:

We also seem to have done alright in the Senate, although we could have done alrighter. Another thing that I was surprised at – despite the massive landslide electoral win Obama snared in the popular vote, last I checked, he was up 52% to 46% – sure 6% ain’t nothing to sneeze at but it seemed surprisingly close to me given that the elections went the way they were predicted to go. What up with that? Huh, turns out, I just have no idea what I’m talking about. Imagine that! He’s won with the highest percentage of the vote attained by any Democrat since 1964.

Oh, another thing. It totally sucks that Proposition 8 will pass in California. California, that is totally uncool. You’re screwing it up for the rest of the states, too. The religious freedom arguments against the proposition were ludicrous. Sigh. But that was pretty much the only dark note in a pretty amazing evening.

What’d you think?

(Tomorrow we will return to our usual nerdy ass blogging)

  • I'm just glad it was all over and done with in ONE DAY. Halle-frickin'-luah.
