Breakfast Links: Buddhist Excitement, Spammer Colo Down & Is Your Cat Plotting To Kill YOU?

You know, I thought it was just the Christians who were crazy with the seeing images of Jesus or Mary in toast or gourds or what not, wikipedia says it’s called pareidolia. Your assignment today is to work that into conversation three times, all nonchalant like, like when you were studying for the SAT’s and thought you were so smart. Oh, anyhow, it turns out that buddhist monks recently saw the Buddha as a wasp nest. Although, I gotta admit, it does kinda look like the fella. For those who aren’t prone to believing that kinda hype, well, a 17-year-old is now believed (by some) to be the reincarnation of Buddha. He went into the forest for a year, came back with long hair and started preaching and I guess he’s saying some good stuff because people are digging it. Who knows? I’m ok with people listening to someone saying they should foster peace and end discrimination.

Unless that discrimination puts the kibosh on a spamhaus used to send about 2/3 the spam in the US! That’s right, a group of ISPs seem to have banded together to shut down another hosting service, McColo, which was essentially a big spam sending machine. Some providers say they saw a drop from 40 spam per second to 10, yee haw! I still seem to have a crapperload full of spam in my mailbox, but we’ll see if things change significantly today. Although, I always thought it was the botnets doing all the sending, I’m glad I was wrong. Obviously, this doesn’t solve any problems, everyone that was at McColo will just go somewhere else. But for the short term, it must be nice. Some dude says “We fully expect this to recover completely, and to go into the highest ever spam period during the upcoming holiday season.” OH NOES!

Finally a little tip sheet and quiz to find out… if… your cat is plotting to kill you! Pretty funny, well, funny if you have a cat. Which I do. And it turns out that there’s a 78% chance that she’s trying to kill me… believe me, I’m going to keep an eye out on this… Any cat owners out there in cyberspace? That’s right, I’m bringing cyberspace back effective today.

  • Hahaha! I think that's true. Oh, Buddhists.
  • kaige
Wasn't one of the things about Buddha was that he went beyond the cycle of reincarnation?
