Breakfast Links: Rental DUI, Unlawful Photography & Colliding Subs

It pays to plan ahead, you don’t want to leave things to the last moment – most of the time you just get screwed. Say, for example, that you’re planning to get drunk as crap one night, right? But you’re car has that damn breathalyzer test attached to the ignition so that you wouldn’t be able to drive it home when you were right plastered. You need the foresight of one Long Island gentleman to rent a car earlier in the day so that you don’t have to worry about that damn thing! Yup, good planning is the key to success. In this case, it can be measured by his need to be airlifted to the hospital to deal with all his injuries from the accident I’m sure he was also planning on receiving for driving drunk. Nearly an excellent candidate for the Darwin Awards.

Moving along. The British police seem to dislike it when you take a picture of them, so apparently, they’ve decided to make it illegal to do so. Like so much terrible legislation this has something to do with countering terrorism. Sigh, well, I guess I shouldn’t make too much fun given how the NYC police just arrested an MTA employee (someone who works for public transit here) for taking a picture of a train before getting on it. This despite the fact that the MTA has said it was ok to do so. Unfortunately, according to the arresting cops, the NYPD has different ideas on that. Sigh.

Finally, I’m sure you sleep well knowing that your safety is guarded by bunches of nuclear submarines patrolling our waters. You may sleep slightly less well knowing that two of these subs, carrying nuclear missiles, had a little bit of a fender bender in the Atlantic. It’s a little funny – I guess it’d be like driving on a really really wide highway where you and all the other cars were invisible, what with all these stealthy subs. Fortunately subs weren’t overly damaged, no people were injured and no nuclear holocaust has ensued. Phew!
