Breakfast Links: Masai v Water, Villagers v Google & Texas v Microsoft

So, a bit ago a bunch of Masai warriors ran the London Marathon to raise money for a well for their village. They were so successful, they raised twice the amount of money they planned on – £114,726 (I can’t even count high enough to translate that into American). Unfortunately, it seems they’ve already gone through more than half of that and can’t find clean water – it seems their NGO isn’t a very good one – more help is on the way. But it’s a damn good thing they raised that extra scratch! Would be super sad if after all that, they didn’t find clean water. :(

Poor Google, looks like the Google Street View car was seen entering a British village, where the villagers took exception to the car. Apparently, the villagers all got their torches and pitchforks and chased that monstrosity straight on out of the village. Guess, they’re not down with the G. One can imagine that somehow, newspapers being angry with Google again, that Eric Schmidt might receive a similar welcome at the Newspaper Association of America’s convention. It’s hard to be the big guy.

Microsoft knows that all too well. Maybe they’re chuckling at Google’s misfortunes these days. Or maybe they’re weeping because they’re still having problems. Take for instance the fact that Texas has banned Vista from all government computers. Damn. I mean, that’s pretty hard core. If you’re Microsoft, you’ve already given up on Vista and are just crossing your fingers that Windows 7 will make everyone forget Vista ever happened. But this is just kicking a dead horse when it’s down. Hurry Windows 7, you’re their only hope!
