Breakfast Links: Finding GOD in Salami, Aussie Spiders & American Cities Translated

So God appears to (crazy) people in all sorts of ways, on trees, in stains on the wall and whatever – some ghostly appearance that (crazy) people get all excited about. The latest isn’t even a ghostly appearance, it’s the letters G O D that are burnt into some slices of salami. Really? That’s all it takes to get some TV coverage? You burn some letters poorly into your salami and say it just showed up that way? Come on.

Ugh. Anwyay… Australia, it’s a land of extremes. For example on the one hand you have the town that is being invaded by giant, poisonous tarantulas. These bad boys are larger than the palm of your hand and are walking through the town because they’ve been flooded out of their homes by heavy rains. But don’t worry, they aren’t poisonous enough to kill people, just dogs. And on the other hand, where else could you get a 6 month job, hanging out on an island paradise, making one video blog a week that paid $150,000? Yeah, not many other places.

Finally, check it – National Geographic has translated the names of cities and states all over the US. (via) It’s pretty awesome. You’ll find out that Winnebago means “person of dirty water”. What? Or that Anaktuvuk Pass is “the place where dung is found”. Good thing to know. Check out their interactive, sorta, map. Word.

  • Thank you Ira.

Yes Brian. You should keep your cheese.
  • SO what your saying is I should have kept all those pieces of cheese with JESUS spelled out in holes?

    Damn it.
